The Yale School of Music which is also known as (YSM), a graduate professional school within Yale University, is a worldwide leader in educating the creative musicians and cultural leaders of tomorrow. How To Apply For Admission Into Yale School Of Music
The online application for the 2019–2020 academic year will be available September 15, 2018.
Yale School of Music is a graduate school and accepts applications for the following degree programs only:
- Master of Music (M.M.)
- Master of Musical Arts (M.M.A.)
- Artist Diploma (A.D.)
- Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.)
- Certificate in Performance
- Bachelor of Arts/Master of Music (B.A./M.M.)*
- String Quartet Fellowship
- Collaborative Piano Fellowship
Applicants interested in majoring in music at the undergraduate level should refer to Yale College’s undergraduate office of admissions for application instructions and to the Department of Music website for information about music study as an undergraduate at Yale.
List Of Requirements For Admission Into Yale School Of Music
A completed online application (for all degree programs) is due on Saturday, December 1, 2018 and must include ALL of the following items:

Yale School Of Music Information For D.M.A. Applicants
D.M.A. applicants are required to submit supplementary materials in addition to the items listed above. Click here for a complete description of the D.M.A. application and exam requirements.
D.M.A. applicants must be present on exam days. Exams are not offered on any other dates and will not be rescheduled.
Applying to more than one Degree Program
If you are applying to the A.D. program, for example, and you would also like to be considered for another degree program (such as the M.M.A., M.M., or Certificate), you must select A.D. as your primary degree program on the online application.
Then you may select a secondary degree program. D.M.A. applicants interested in being considered for the M.M.A. or A.D. program may select M.M.A. or A.D. as the secondary degree program. You may only apply to a maximum of two degree programs with each application.
Institute of Sacred Music (ISM) Applicants
Applicants to the ISM programs (Choral Conducting, Early Music Voice, or Organ) must submit both the School of Music online application and the ISM online application.
How to Do the Online Application into Yale School Of Music
The online application for the 2019-2020 academic year will be available on Saturday, September 15, 2018. The application includes sections where you will upload all of your application materials. Anything sent by mail (any supplementary materials that cannot be uploaded) must be postmarked on or before December 1.
YSM applicants for choral conducting, early music voice, and organ must also submit an application through the Institute of Sacred Music (more information below).
B.A./M.M. applicants applying as a high school senior must also submit a college application through Yale undergraduate admissions.
For all other applicants, the Yale School of Music application is the only Yale University application you need to submit.

A full tuition award and fellowship are made to all students who are admitted to the Yale School of Music, with the exception of those receiving awards from other agencies.

Other Means Of Financial Aid as Substitute For Scholarship
YSM Student Work
In additional to financial aid, there are many paid positions for student work. The Music in Schools Initiative and the Undergraduate Lessons program provide teaching opportunities for current students. Students earn $25 per hour if hired for these activities. In addition, pianists may be hired as accompanists, and there are many administrative and operations jobs at the school that pay $11–$15 per hour.
The Belding Fund provides some financial assistance to students who travel for professional engagements, including performances, auditions, and competitions.
